Here is my essay on how My Little Pony can help the world.....or something like that.
A good television show can come from any idea or inspiration. While some have plots that last seasons, some can survive on a plot per episode basis. This is true for "My Little Pony: FriendShip is Magic". A new show that has caught a lot of attention from male and females of all ages. These fans identify themselves as bronies (brothers in ponies) or pegasisters (pegasus sisters). People outside of the trend have been wondering "Why My Little Ponies?". This is a show for little girls? Right? Wrong. While the original my little pony series are usually aimed towards little girls, the "Friend is Magic" series features many new parts that can attract people of all backgrounds. In this essay I will focus on three lessons from three different episodes to show you that a show of small origions can help people in their day to day lives, despite if your 3 or 43.
The show revolves around 6 main ponies: Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie. Through out the show, these main 6 face many problems and monsters. One of the biggest ones comes in the episode titled "Dragonshy". The problem in this episode is that a full grown dragon has made his camp in the mountains near Ponyville, causing the skies of numerous cities in Equestria to be covered in thick smoke. Twilight Sparkle and her friends make their way up the mountain in an attempt to get the dragon to leave. The problem, Fluttershy is terrified of dragons. As she makes her way up the mountain, it is obvious that she is uncomfterble. She has trouble jumping a small gaps, as well as flying up the mountain. But, she eventually gets to the top of the mountain. After the dragon is angered by all the other ponies, Fluttershy finally stands up for her friends and yells at the dragon. She says "How dare you... How dare you! Listen here, mister! Just because you're big, doesn't mean you get to be a bully! You may have huge teeth, and sharp scales, and snore smoke, and breathe fire... But you do not, I repeat, you do not! Hurt! My! Friends! (Season 1, Episode 7, 18:30)". This is very big for a character that spent the whole season scared of her own shadow. People can take that although its okay to be afraid, they should always stand up for what is right.
The next episode I am mentioning mentions a sport loving pegasus named Rainbow Dash. She is famous for her flying move the sonic rainboom, always winning, and being the coolest pony in the whole show. But while her friends can handle her cool laid back attitude, it can get her into trouble sometimes. In the episode "May the Best Pet Win" Rainbow Dash decides she wants to get a pet, but cannot decide what would be best. She decides to hold a contest, so that each pet may prove that it is fast, strong, touch, and awesome enough to be her pet. During the whole competition, Fluttershy pushes along a tortoise, trying to get it to be her pet as well, but Rainbow Dash couldn't care less about about the slow pet. In the final race, Rainbow Dash crashes and hurts her wing, but all the cool pets pass her. The tourtoise saves her and she picks it to be her pet. At one point she says "But I said whoever crosses the finish line with me gets to be my pet. And the only racer who crossed the finish line with me was the one who stopped to save me when I needed help.(Season 2, Episode 7, 19:45)" Rainbow Dash learned that although the tortoise wasn't the coolest or fastest pet, it was the pet that truly cared about her. This lesson can be taken into real life when picking friends or even just people in our lives. We should learn to surround ourselves with people who support us and want the best for us.
The last lesson I will feature is a lesson learned by the fashion loving pony named Rarity. While visiting the fancy city canterlot, Rarity lies about her origions to become one of the most popular ponies in all of Equestria. She lies that she didn't come from ponyville, that her friend Rainbow Dash is the Wonderbolts trainer (the wonderbolts being a famous flying performance group), and mentions the fact she is staying at the Princess' castle. Once popular, she blows off her old friends, lying to them that her cat is sick. When the climax of the episode is happening, her hold friends are around her new friends embarrassing her. You think Rarity would go with her new friends, but she actually defends her old faithful friends. "Yes, yes I do know them. They may not be as sophisticated as some of you Canterlot ponies, but they are my best friends and they are without a doubt, the most important ponies I know.(Season 2, Episode 9, 20:00)" Sometimes, friends may embarrass us but that is no reason to leave them, as they are the best friends we have and won't leave us like we are some sort of passing trend.
"Stand up for your friends", "Pick people who support and care for us as our friends", and "Be proud of where you come from" are just a few lessons that can be picked up from this show. People of all ages can benefit from this show and the things we learn from it. Through friend ship and understanding, we could work together to make our community a better place. Through character development, amazing plots, and cool monsters anything is possible. Even teaching the most boring of lessons in a way anyone can love.
